1)Oi Joana conta um pouco sobre a sua história e a história do seu site, Burning Angel.
Joanna Angel: Olá, o Burning Angel começou oficialmente em 20 de abril de 2002, Isso é engraçado pq 20 de Abril é uma data em que os hippies da faculdade celebram, como o “420”. Eh basicamente um dia onde as pessoas fumam maconha. Mitch e eu (somos sócios no site) vivíamos numa casa com outras 8 pessoas quando estávamos na faculdade, exatamente estes dias, então fomos forçados a participar das festividades. Eu não sei o que é que isso tem a ver com nada disso…mas pode crer que esse dia não faz nenhum sentido…o que faz o inicio da minha carreira pornô ainda mais surreal do que ela é.
2) Por que as garotas escolhem fazer fotos para o Burning Angel?
Joanna Angel: Há mais de 100 garotas no site…Eu não posso falar por todas elas, e nem todas fazem isso pelas mesmas razões. Mas eu acho que todas as garotas que tiram fotos pra gente gostam do site, e de tudo o que ele representa, e querem fazer parte disso de alguma maneira.
3) É dificil manter um site como o seu num pais ainda muito puritano? Você tem tido que tipo de repercussão em relação ao seu site e as garotas?
Joanna Angel: HAHAHA, Eu vivo em Nova Iorque, e como todo Novaiorquino, esquecemos que o resto do País existe, exceto Los Angeles, e ambos, tanto LA quanto NY, são muito amigáveis com a pornografia.
4) Você é fã de algum site semelhante ao seu? Ou algum outro site ou zine em geral?
Joanna Angel: Há muito tempo que eu não leio zines. Eu gosto da “Vice”…mas isso é uma revista, não um zine. Eu sou uma grande fã do site da Tristan Taormino www.puckerup.com. Não eh exatamente igual ao BA, mas as ideias e textos daquele site foram uma grande influência para mim, e me ajudou muito a definir o BA como ele é. Eu tive muitas ideias sobre o Burning Angel quando trabalhei como estagiaria no site www.nerve.com quando estava no colégio, eu sempre adorei este site, eles tem uma visão única sobre sexo, e isso é muito divertido.
5) O que faz o seu site ser diferente de outros sites como suicidegirls.com ou supercult.com?
Joanna Angel: É difícil responder…nós apenas fazemos nossas coisas e eles fazem as coisas deles. Eu não posso listar o que nós temos e o que não temos em comum. Mas…nós somo um site de Pornografia hardcore, e nenhum dos dois que vc citou segue esta linha, esta é a diferença mais óbvia.

6) Antes de criar o seu site, que tipo de pornografia vc consumia? Quando vc comecou a consumir pornografia?
Joanna Angel: Pra ser honesta eu nunca curti muito pornografia, eu gostava da ideia de pornografia…mas não assistia nada. Depois que o Burning Angel começou, eu fiquei amiga do diretor Jules Jordan…ele virou assinante do meu site me escreveu um e-mail e depois me mandou um monte dos seus videos. Eu já o achava bem quente. Eu acho que foi ai que eu comecei a gostar de pornografia.
7) Você comecou no AltPorn por diversão e prazer, ou pra dar prazer para os caras? Como é ser adorada por vários caras e garotas?
Joanna Angel: Bom, eu não sei pq fiz isso…eu simplesmente fiz, e hoje isso é minha vida, e eu estou muito ocupada pra pensar pq estou aqui.Eu estou muito feliz e tenho aprendido muito sobre mim mesma, sobre a indústria da música e pornografia desde que comecei com o meu site. Estou orgulhosa por estar aqui.
8) Foi difícil a passagem de alguém que gosta de pornografia para alguém que faz pornografia?
Joanna Angel: Eu era uma pornógrafa antes mesmo de me tornar fã de pornografia…e por causa disso eu sei todas as coisas que contam pra se fazer boa pornografia…eu sou a maior de todas as fãs!
9) Quais seus limites sexuais?
Joanna Angel: HAHAHA Eu não sei…eu acho…eu certamente não faria nada com animais ou menores de idade…ou você sabe…caras muito velhos, ou pessoas da minha família. Respondi a pergunta?
10) Nas festas do seu site as pessoas só se divertem e dançam ou acontece sexo real por lá? Pode nos contar uma experiência boa e uma ruim sobres estas festas?
Joanna Angel: Quando fazemos nossas festas, todo mundo acaba perdido e se divertindo muito, o que algumas vezes envolve nudez e alguma coisa mais quente, mas isso não é como uma grande orgia. Uma experiência ruim foi num ano novo, quando alguém que odeia pornografia jogou uma bomba com um cheiro horrível na festa. Isso foi uma grande merda.
11) Você mesma faz o site para o Burning Angel?
Não, alguém faz isso por mim. Eu preciso dormir um pouco às vezes!
12) Existe algum vídeo ou dvd ou livros Burning Angel pra ser lançado?
Temos um DVD pra ser lançado em breve, provavelmente quando estiverem lendo isto já estará à venda. E no futuro pretendemos lançar um livro, mas para o próximo ano.
13) Qual foi sua primeira aparição na pornografia, e como foi fazer isso diante das câmeras?
Eu acho que fazer sexo para as câmeras é divertido. Sexo usualmente é uma atividade que te deixa envolvido, e se vc é legal, outra pessoa se envolve também. Quando vc transa para a câmera, eu penso que todo mundo no universo se envolve também, incluindo eu mesma e os outros, então esta é uma tarefa complicada.
Mulheres na pornografia
14) Seu site é feito e mantido por uma mulher, o que não é muito comum no mercado pornográfico. O que vc tem a dizer sobre isso?
As pessoas esquecem que a indústria pornô é apenas um microcosmo da sociedade. Nem todas as mulheres estão a frente de um site pornô, mas muitas mulheres não estão a frente de nada. Quantas mulheres banqueiras vc conhece? Quantas mulheres contadoras ou consultoras vc conhece? Quantas mulheres advogadas vc conhece? Quantas mulheres são executivas em wall street? A proporção é praticamente a mesma, eu garanto. O problema maior é que muitas mulheres tem medo de fazer coisas grandiosas, seja na industria pornográfica ou em qualquer outra indústria pelo mundo. Eu apenas sou muito determinada a lutar contra o mundo patriarcal…Eu caminho para o topo, não importa o tipo de indústria em que eu atue, apenas porque eu sinto que quero fazer isso a fim de inverter a dinâmica do poder. Entende?
15) Quem te inspira no mundo da pornografia?
Tristan Taormino eh minha inspiração. Eu presto atenção a outras garotas na cena como Belladonna, Nina Hartley, Jill Kelly, e Jenna Jameson, elas todas são mulheres lindas e poderosas…mas a Tristan Taormino eh minha favorita, ela é a responsável pela criação da Joanna Angel.
16) Eu vi que tem algumas garotas brazileiras no seu site. O que vc sabe sobre o Brasil, e qual sua opião sobre as garotas brasileiras?
Eu trabalhei em strip clubs por algum tempo…e as primeiras brazileiras que conhecei foi no strip club, e a primeira vez que eu a vi foi como: – Porra essa garota eh FODA! Então eu conheci muitas outras brazileiras que trabalhavam ali, e todas eram muito gostosas. E uma vez o irmão de uma delas veio pegá-la no trabalho e ele era muito bonito também. Então basicamente tudo o que eu sei sobre o Brasil é que vcs tem genes muitos bons por ai. Eu gostaria de conhecer o Brasil, talvez eu filme alguma coisa por ai.
17) Em quais países do mundo seu site é mais conhecido?
hahaha Não tenho idéia. Brasil?Canada? Eu sei que somos bem populares em alguns países da Europa…mas eu realmente não sei. Eu apenas faço meu trabalho…não sei quem está apreciando o que faço.
18) O que eh Alt Porn na sua opinião, é como manter um ar alternativo para não ser confundido com pornô tradicional? Basta atitude?
Sabe, eu não tentei criar um site “Alt Porn”…eu e o Mitch apenas tivemos uma ideia e seguimos com ela. Burning Angel é a representaçåo do que gostamos: Sexo e Rock…não importa como as pessoas querem chamar isso. Nós só fazemos o que queremos fazer. Eu gosto de pornô normal também, mas não sou uma garota normal…então acho que eu não conseguiria fazer um pornô normal também se eu tentasse.

1) Hi Joanna, can you tell us about the history of Burning Angel? When was it created, what is your role?
Hello! Burning Angel officially began on April 20th 2002. It’s funny because April 20th is the date of a silly holiday in the states that lame hippies in college celebrate known as “420”. It’s basically a day where people smoke pot. Mitch and I (Mitch owns the site with me) lived in a house with like 8 other people when we were in college who were really into this day… so we were forced to partake in the festivities. I don’t know what this has to do with anything… but yeah, the whole day didn’t make any sense… which made the beginning of my porno career even more surreal than it was.
I guess my official title is “CEO”? I think? I called myself that when I learned that CEO’s are just people who do everything. I’m the owner of the site, I model on the site, I do the band interviews, a lot of the writing… I organize events and do dirty things on camera. I eat sleep breathe and live BurningAngel. I’m a walking porn site! OK?
2) Why do girls usually choose to take pictures for Burning Angel ?
There are over 100 girls on the site… I can’t speak for all of them, and they don’t all do it for the same reason. But I do think that everyone who models for us likes the site, and what it’s all about, and wants to be part of it on some level.
3) Is it difficult to maintain such a website as yours in a country still very much into puritanism ? Did you get good or bad press about the website or the girls?
Hahahaha. Well, I live in New York city and like most New Yorkers, we forget that the rest of the country exists… except LA, and both New York and LA are pretty porn friendly. And to me, all press is good press… but in actuality, most of the press is positive. We’re really fun to be around, and even when people try and find bad things to say about us, they have a hard time doing so… because we’ll make fun of ourselves before anyone else makes fun of us.
4) Are you a fan of any other websites similar to yours? Or any other sites and zines in general?
I haven’t read a Zine in a long time. I like Vice… but that’s a magazine, not a zine. I’m a big fan of Tristan Taormino’s site, www.puckerup.com. It’s not really similar to BurningAngel but her ideas and writings have really shaped me into who I am, and in turn, have helped me shape BurningAngel into what it is. I got a lot of the ideas on BurningAngel from interning at Nerve.com when I was in college. I always liked that site… they have a unique view on sex and it’s really funny.
5) What makes your site different from some of the other sites out there, like suicidegirls.com or supercult.com or others?
It’s hard to answer… we just do our own thing and they do their own thing, I can’t go through the list of what we have that they don’t and what they have that we don’t. But… we are a hardcore porn site, and neither of those other sites are. I guess that’s the most blatant difference.
6) Before you created your site, what kinds of porn were you into? When did you start whacthing porn?
To be honest, I was never really into porn. I was into the idea of it… but I didn’t watch any. After Burning Angel started, I became friendly with director Jules Jordan… he joined the site and emailed me and then he sent me a bunch of his movies… I thought they were pretty hot. I guess that’s when I started liking porn.
7) Did you start in alt porn just for fun, for your pleasure, or to please the guys? How is it like being adored by the guys and some girls?
Um. I don’t know why I did this… I just kinda did, and now it’s my life… and I’m too busy to think about why I got here. I’m really happy and I’ve learned a lot about myself and the music industry and the porno industry through BurningAngel so I dunno… I’m glad I wound up here.
8) Was it hard to transition from being a fan into being a pornographer?
I was a pornographer before I became a fan… and because I really know all the things that go into making a good porn… I am a bigger fan than anyone else.
9) What are your limits in sex? (what you do and what you don’t do)
Hahaha… I don’t know. I mean… I certainly don’t want to have sex with any animals or minors… or you know… really old dudes, and members of my family. Does that answer your question?
10) When you make a party, do you all have sex or is it just for fun and dancing? Can you tell us any really really good experience? And a crap one?
When we have a party, we all get loose and have a good time… and that usually involves nudity and some making out but its not like a big orgy. Um… on new years some porno hater let a stink bomb off at the party. That was pretty shitty.
11) Did you all write the web code for Burning Angel?
No. Someone else does. I mean, I need to sleep every once in a while!
12) Will there be any Burning Angel films, or DVDs, or mags or books coming out soon?
We have a dvd coming out very soon… like next week. Probably by the time you read this it will be out. We have a coffee table book coming out, but not for a while, like… within the next year or so.
13) Was it your first performance in porno? How was it like doing it in front of the camera?
I think having sex on camera is fun. Sex is usually an activity that’s all about getting you off, and if you’re nice, then someone else off too. When I fuck on camera, I think about getting everyone in the entire universe off including myself and the other person so it’s a pretty complicated task.
14) Your site is owned and maintained by women, which seems very unusual for such a popular erotica site. Do you have any thoughts about this?
People forget that the porn industry is just a microcosm to society. No, not a lot of women run porn sites, but not a lot of women run anything. Like how many women investment bankers do you know? How many women accountants or consultants do you know? How many women lawyers do you know? How many women are CEO’s on Wall Street? The ratio is pretty much the same, I guarantee. The problem is more that women are scared to do anything powerful… be it in porn, or anywhere else in the world. I just happen to be very determined to fight the patriarchy… I’d climb to the top no matter what industry I was in… just because I feel like I have to in order to change the power dynamic. Does that make sense?
15) Who’s inspiring you in the porn world?
Tristan Taormino is my inspiration…. I look up to some of the other girls in charge, like Belladonna, Nina Hartley, Jill Kelly, and Jenna Jameson. They’re all powerful beautiful women… but Tristan Taormino is my girl. She’s responsible for the creation of Joanna Angel.
16) I saw that there´s some brazilian girls at Burning Angel. What do you know about Brazil, and what’s your opinion about brazilian girls?
I’ve been working at strip clubs for a while… and the first Brazilian I met was at a strip club, and the first time I saw her I was like… holy fuckin shit, that girl is SLAMMIN. Then I met a bunch of other Brazilian girls that worked there… and they were all gorgeous.. and one time one of their brother’s came in to work to pick one of the girl’s up, and he was pretty gorgeous too. So basically all I really know about Brazil is that they have some damn good genes there. I’d like to go there one day… maybe we can film something down there.
17) In what countries around the world your web site is well know?
Hahaha… I have no idea. Brazil? Canada? I’ve heard we’re pretty popular in some European countries… but I really don’t know. I just do my work… I’m not sure who’s appreciating it.
18 ) What is altporn in your opinion and what is not alt.porn, and how to keep the alternative flavor to not be misunderstood with normal porn? Just attitude?
You know, I didn’t intend to create an “alt porn” site… Me and Mitch just had this idea and went with it. Burning Angel is a representation of what I like; Sex and Rock N Roll… whatever people want to call it, is up to them… we just do what we want to do. I like normal porn, but I’m not really a normal girl… do I don’t think I could make normal porn if I tried =)
